This webpage was last updated on date.

Mission of this site:

  • To create a platform with up-to-date practical information and advice on the diagnosis, follow-up and treatment of heart failure patients based on the most recent guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). This advice is aimed at all persons involved, both the care providers (GPs, non-cardiologists (and cardiologists), nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, etc.) and the patients and their environment.
  • To promote multidisciplinary care for heart failure patients in Belgium, so that these patients are continuously monitored, advised and treated in the most optimal and similar way possible by each healthcare provider.
  • Improving the quality of heart failure treatment in Belgium.
  • Improving the implementation of the ESC guidelines in practice.
  • Contributing to improving the quality of life, health and prognosis of patients with heart failure.
  • To help patients, their families and caregivers better understand the condition of heart failure so that this chronic disease can be managed as effectively as possible at home with a correct lifestyle and attention to alarm symptoms.

The Belgian Working Group on Heart Failure (BWGHF) of the Belgian Society of Cardiology (BSC) is the professional organization that developed this website. This website provides general information, guidelines and advice in accordance with the current ESC guidelines and expert opinions. In practice, the correct diagnosis and treatment remain the responsibility of the treating physician(s) and the care providers involved. These cannot be recovered from the BWGHF or the authors. Patients should discuss symptoms or additional questions about heart failure with their treating physician.
