The treatment of heart failure is becoming increasingly extensive and complex. Certain guidelines are valid for any patient with heart failure, regardless of LVEF. Other evidence based treatments are only strictly indicated in patients with heart failure with reduced LVEF ( HFrEF ). Chronic treatment is therefore different between patients with HFrEF , HFmrEF or HFpEF .
There are now many different medications available for the treatment of heart failure. In addition, for some patients it is very important that they have the most suitable implantable device implanted at the right time (CRT, ICD). A small group of patients have a more rare heart muscle disease (cardiomyopathy) that requires a specific approach. It is therefore very important that these are diagnosed. Ultimately, some patients will progress to advanced heart failure requiring cardiac replacement therapy (transplantation, LVAD).
